Attitudes towards Galician

Historically, Galician was considered a “worse” language than Castilian. Many people thought one should not speak to the doctor or lawyer in Galician, as it was inappropriate. It was also thought that whoever spoke Galician was neither modern nor cultured. Nowadays, many negative prejudices about Galician have been overcome, although there is still resistance in some sectors. As we can see on the graph, the majority think that the language of the Galicians is Galician, or both languages that coexist here.
